A Singapore wedding checklist runs in this order: book the banquet venue and date first, then the bridal studio and photographer; hold the guo da li in the weeks before the wedding; file the notice of marriage so the ROM falls more than 21 days and less than three months later (per marriage.gov.sg); send invitations 6 to 8 weeks ahead with a reply-by date 3 to 4 weeks before (per SingaporeBrides); give the hotel its final table count about two weeks before; and on the day run the gatecrash, the tea ceremony, the ROM if it is the same day, and the banquet. The Private Wedding App holds that whole checklist with due dates and overdue alerts, next to an invitation with a separate RSVP for the ROM, the tea ceremony and the banquet, as part of the full planner at S$24.99/month or S$249 once, lifetime. 3-day free trial.
Generic wedding checklists are written for a single afternoon ceremony and a reception. A Singapore wedding runs on a different calendar: a banquet booked long before anything else, a bridal studio package, the guo da li, a legal deadline for the ROM, and a wedding day that starts with a gatecrash at dawn and ends with a yam seng. This checklist puts those steps in the order they actually happen, with the dates that cannot move.
First: the banquet and the date
Everything in a Singapore wedding hangs on the banquet booking, because popular hotels and auspicious dates go first and the banquet is 40 to 60% of the budget. Choose the date, often with the family's almanac, then the venue, then sign and pay the deposit. Agree the budget and how it is split between the families before the second deposit, not after.
The wedding checklist lets you add categories such as "Guo da li" and "ROM" with a due date and priority on each task.
- Date chosen, with the family if an auspicious date matters
- Banquet venue booked, deposit paid, balance date noted
- Budget agreed between the families
- Rough guest count from each side, in tables of ten
- ROM date chosen: same day as the banquet or earlier
The months before: vendors and the bridal studio
Most Singapore couples book a bridal studio package covering gowns, suits and the pre-wedding photoshoot, plus an actual-day photographer and videographer. Then hair and makeup for the morning and the evening, the wedding car, rings and the solemniser if the ROM is not at the Registry.
The vendor manager compares quotes side by side and sends each booked vendor into the budget with its deposit and instalments.
Guo da li and the customary steps
The guo da li is the betrothal ceremony, when the groom's family presents gifts to the bride's family on an auspicious date in the weeks before the wedding. The items vary by dialect group and family, so ask both sets of parents early and write the list down. The bride's family returns part of the gifts. Many families also hold an an chuang, the bed-setting ritual, a few days before the wedding.
Put every customary step on the checklist with its date, and share the wedding with a parent who can keep it updated: the checklist shows overdue and due-this-week tasks at the top.
ROM filing: the dates that cannot move
Per marriage.gov.sg, you file the notice of marriage online and the solemnisation must take place after 21 days and before three months from filing; the notice lapses after three months. You need two witnesses aged 21 or above who attend the solemnisation, and both of you attend the verification of documents. Muslim marriages are solemnised through the Registry of Muslim Marriages instead.
Count backwards from your ROM date: the filing window opens three months before and closes 21 days before. Put both dates on the checklist with a high priority.
For the order of the day and who to invite to the ROM, read ROM, tea ceremony and banquet.
Invitations, RSVP and the final count
SingaporeBrides etiquette suggests sending local invitations 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding with a reply-by date 3 to 4 weeks before, which leaves two weeks for the hotel's final count. Guests invited to different parts of the day, the ROM, the tea ceremony and the banquet, should each be asked about their own parts.
With a separate RSVP per event, each part has its own answers and headcount, and each guest group its own link.
The day: gatecrash to yam seng
Morning: the groom and groomsmen arrive for the gatecrash, then the tea ceremony at each family's home. Afternoon: rest, the second makeup look and, if it is the same day, the ROM solemnisation at the hotel. Evening: the reception desk opens, guests hand over ang bao and find their table, the couple's march-in, the yam seng toasts and the table visits.
Brief two helpers for the reception desk with the printed table list. If you switch on door check-in, they scan each guest's entry pass on a phone and see the table and party at once. The seating plan prints the table list for the desk.
